Teacher-Student Texting

In the January 26 Education Weekly article on teacher-student texting the Virginia board of education is considering new guidelines concerning the issue.  The guidelines would prohibit private texts and social networking with students or playing online games with students.  I know this will upset Barry, but I think these guidelines are not unreasonable.  It is amazing that we all somehow survived before cell phones and email and even copy machines.  Texting is a great convenience but it is not necessary to the survival.  Organization is.  The article did not give specific problems about teacher-student interaction but something must have occurred.  The problem is not with technology, it is with teachers who do not act (or text) professionally.  So many times we see an overreaction due to the bad behavior of one person.
