Captains Log WEB 2.0

Web 2.0 are sites where numerous factors such as communities, information sharing, associations, social groups, all converge into a user friendly format.

The first Web 2.0 tool I decided to focus on was what seemed to me to be the most useful.  Delicious is a tool that I am amazed is not better known.  These are the kind of tools that are making laptops obsolete.  As long as you can access a computer you have your tool at your finger tips.  To be honest, I never pictured myself getting excited about computer applications but between Delicious and Google documents I am pretty impressed.
The greatness of Delicious is as follows:

  • You can access your bookmarks anywhere at anytime
  • You can share your bookmarks
  • You can easily tag new bookmarks making it simple to locate them in the future
  • It is easy to use which is a must for such as me
  • You can add it to your tool bar for easy access
The ability to access this tool anywhere is perhaps its greatest asset.  That and the ability to share bookmarks would enable a teacher to share with colleagues and students useful sites that could enhance understanding and efficiency.  Instead of one persons history of investigation you would have a community's.

In the Screen Recorders category I chose Voice Thread.  It seems somewhat similar to Yodio but maybe you could call it the next generation.  Voice Thread can be used with the simplicity of Yodio.
Some of the points of Voice Thread:
  • Like Yodio, you can upload photos and pictures over which you can narrate.
  • Voice Thread can be embedded in blogs
  • Others can leave audio or text comments next to the video
  • You can Doodle while watching which allows control of video playback
  • The Moderation feature allows you to control published comments
  • A Voice Thread account also allows many identities (Avatars).
I think this would be a great way for students to express themselves in ways that may benefit individual learning styles.  Visual, audio, physical, and social learners would have the chance to take something away from using this in presentations, simple assignments or just for fun.  The ability for the teacher to leave audio and written comments would also leave an impression on students.
