Changing huh? to Whu?

Once again arrogance or other nefarious reasons are dragging the U.S. down when it comes to education reform. In the article U.S. Reforms Out of Sync With High-Performing Nations, Report Find by Stephen Sawchuk on May 27, it seems the points we are focusing on like more testing and teacher evaluation rather than teacher development and training. The U.S. also lacks a coherent system of change. We are a trendy people and that goes for what is "in" in education.  Now one of the things that is in is rating teachers based on student test scores.  This has so many holes in it's thinking that it is hardly worth worrying about until you realize some people are seriously considering using this alone.  It is like only using testing to rank a student's achievements which is also an apparently welcome thought by many.  According to the article, Singapore has 16 domains in which evaluation takes place, including a focus on achievement, professional contribution to the school, community involvement, and relationship with parents.  I do not understand why we are so hesitant to look outside for help.  I wish we would decide on which path we are going to take though for true reform.  Are we going to help kids by improving teacher quality or are we going to force teachers to force kids to test, test, test.
